Several years ago, I was told that I was a candidate for back surgery. I was given the option to try physical therapy, first. I went to Luke Carlson. He not only decreased my pain, he also helped me stabilize and strengthen the muscles in my back with stretches and exercises. I have never had back surgery!
While Luke served as the sports trainer at Ankeny High School, he did an excellent job working with our students with prevention and care of athletic injuries. He was incredibly flexible with scheduling and treatments. He was dedicated to getting the athlete back into action as soon as possible, while always keeping the athlete's health as the driving factor.

Several years ago, I was referred to Luke Carlson for physical therapy. I have been an active runner for 45 years and have reached a point where, on occasion, I need help with related issues. When I first met Luke, I was immediately attracted to his personality and manner in which he listened to me about my Achilles and leg pain. Luke took the time to explain to me what caused my pain, manipulated the areas that gave almost immediate relief, and provided me with exercises so that I could avoid further injury. A few years back, I had a major foot injury that resulted in emergency surgery due to tendon damage and a serious infection. After months of an open wound with a wound vacuum, I developed a lot of scar tissue and had very limited mobility of my foot. My surgeon prepared me for a life of pain and limited ambulation. Luckily, I received physical therapy from Luke Carlson. With his persistence, expertise, and extra attention, I am happy to report that I have full mobility of my foot and I am basically pain free. Recently, I required carpal tunnel surgery of my right hand and was referred for physical therapy by my surgeon. Of course, I immediately called Luke. There is no one who I trust more than him to reduce the scar tissue that has developed and to get me back to full strength and use of my hand. As a nurse, I also appreciate his excellent bedside manner, and you will too.

One year ago, I had a severe leg and ankle break that also created other complications and had to be dealt with including blood clots, etc. Until I finally got to meet Luke and his excellent staff, I thought the entire nightmare would never end. In 2003, I had a total knee replacement. When my doctor suggested physical therapy the only name I could think of was Luke Carlson. All I knew was that his wife and my daughter were good friends, they all graduated from Ankeny in 1984, and Luke was a physical therapist.
It was my good fortune to have plucked his name out of the archives in my brain --- because since that time, I've had 5 more orthopedic surgeries.
For the past 13 years Luke has been patiently rehabilitating me piece-by-piece! I have found him to be genuinely concerned about my progress. It is his nature to be genuine. He is a first-rate therapist. He knew how much I was capable of doing and his encouragement, techniques, treatments, and therapies were always successful in helping to reach my goals.
Last year my husband had a total knee replacement as well, and of course Luke was his therapist. We both highly, and without reservation, recommend Luke Carlson for superior physical therapy.
